What digital SLR camera between 500-1200 dollars is the best and works well in really low light situations?
I am trying to purchase an entry level digital SLR camera that would be ideal for shooting in low light situations like coffee houses, rock concerts, city streets at night. I have tried out the canon 20d and really liked it, but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions, so I can be confident in my future purchase. Does nikon make a DSLR that works well in low light?
I'd go with the Nikon D80, If you want it I saw it on sale at the Ritz Camera site, they also got some promos at http://www.prioritycodes.com/Electronics/RitzCamera.com-Priority-Codes/index.html for a discount

Camera 450D - Perfect Slr Camera For Beginners
First one thing: this review is in 1st Line of SLR beginners and experienced photographers not yet addressed, which were previously satisfied with the conventional cameras, but are looking for new challenges.
My experience is limited to three small format cameras (currently Fujifilm Finepix F11), as well as I have for nearly two weeks had a Nikon D80 in possession, but gave them back, because the sensitivity of dust here (especially must have been) something of an exception, also appeared at the pixel problems (a total failure, several coloring).
I really wanted to keep faith with Nikon, but it had to produce a camera with dust removal; current tests with the Nikon D60 does not show that it represents a more favorable level of D80. So I tended only to the excellent run-out model Canon EOS 400D, but why save at the wrong end? Certainly, this model will soon fall in price, but I intend to use the camera for several years, so I got slammed because it was heard in the run-up to a lot of praise. Current tests (no surreptitious which journals) encouraged me to take this step. I have purchased from your dealer to exchange the remainder on the spot, nothing against Amazon, etc., but the price was comparable, especially with accessories, and I can back on the ground - but everyone must decide for themselves.
The first test (always in comparison to the D80, which I have the only opportunity to compare far): great, crisp photos indoors, the flash brightens m. E. not quite so good at, but it is fully adequate. ISO had values up to 400 I tried so far, image noise as I can (almost) never-say great performance. Outdoor shots also work fine resolution, is striking especially the natural colors.
The large 3-inch display with high resolution is very well done, Live View is in my view for a "real" SLR photographers (who I still want to be) rather unnecessary, but is now probably slow for the new models standard. The Camera 450D with live view but consumes significantly more power with a battery can therefore make fewer images (with 50% flash used about 190 pictures) as per instructions. Moreover, the whole thing does not work (!) In the subject field modes, ie for the beginner, you can not use Live View for example, in fully automatic range.
But exactly what would have been desirable to see the photo in front of the trigger to be able, but there are the viewfinder. And is also very good. Various information will be provided in the viewfinder, which can be read in the manual. It should be noted the 9-point autofocus. What does that mean? Within nine points in the viewfinder light up, usually just a few. These are the ones who put the image in each area to "sharp". One quickly realizes that it works not always and sometimes you're better off manually it sharp. But in order to become a professional half-SLR, but certainly we need a few years - everyone started off small at.
The objective: a good week, I have been very successful, the camera only with the ES-S 18-55 mm lens: most of the photos are, but also with a stabilizer that does not mean that not blur photos! A tripod, I have already ordered, for a steady hand and stabilizer are good, but there are particular with the 55-250 mm lens, new challenges to guarantee a perfect image (such as night shots with longer exposure times). It should be noted also that the "little" prima lens enables wide-angle shots. Distortions that bother me, I did not found at present.
Now I also get the EF 55-250 mm lens replenished. Suitable for light camera anyway this is more of a lightweight, screwed will not have to contort your arm. The whole set still remains male-and fit women! And the photos () has only Days received. Wow, for my purposes it is enough first time in quite a while. Great zooms are possible, because even here, a stabilizer is used, I have experienced so far in ambidextrous leadership of the camera does not shake. The focal range is remarkable. Professionals like the lens gentle smile, but if one has no HDTV, PAL is the television sometimes very good, d. H. You can certainly increase. If I wanted to have something better, I would have with a Nikon D300 also provides longer reach. With a more expensive lens at the beginning of my Indicative budget but would have been significantly exceeded. Therefore, the Camera 450D will not work though for beginners so interesting. A great device that lets you forget the relatively fast as his recent digicams.
The mere physical comparison of the 22.2 x 14.8 mm big shows an image sensor with the puny size of the available sensors, why here is a 12.2 million-pixel (effective) model exists only for the noise at higher ISO ranges is relevant.
Another reason which makes me happy is that I had been no dust problems, the removal of any remnants of the Dust off the camera also works, otherwise it is recommended for more stubborn cases, a commercially available blower or CAUTION in dusty environments. Pixel loss at various test photos I have not been able to find.
More can certainly be reported, but other and more competent reviewers are certainly still express themselves.
For me, a Kauftipp. A reference to the housing yet: they are no longer seems quite so cheap plastic because it was something noble installed, but it is a D80 or Comparable and especially expensive cameras do not quite hold a candle. But with the great grip on material and lower weight of this shortcoming is compensated very well.
