Why is it so commonly claimed that blood is almost like sea water in schools?

I looked at a chart of chemicals in sea water and blood and apart from both being salty and having mostly water, the other chemicals were off by at best a factor of 2 and at worse not even remotely close.

At one time President John F. Kennedy said that our blood and seawater were similar. All this is flat out wrong but popular people and their errors are hard to get away from.
